Hamdan Award for Honouring Individuals Working in the Field of Medicine & Health

Dr. Abdul Wahab obtained his BSc. in Zoology from the University of Baghdad and then his PhD in Bacteriology from the University of Leeds, UK in 1974.
 
 He joined the Ministry of Health in 1975, among an elite group of staff members who supervised the establishment of the Ministry, drew its organization chart, and expanded its services across all cities, villages and all other remote areas of the UAE. He worked as a Manager for Preventive Medicine, then Manager for the Malaria Combat Program in UAE in 1978, before being selected as Assistant Undersecretary for community medicine affairs. He retired in 1993.
 
Dr. Abdul Wahab was a prominent member in many national and GCC committees, including the Malaria Combat Committee, and the GCC Unified Medicine Purchase Committee. He launched the school health program and supported the promotion of its services.
 
During his career in the MOH, Dr. Abdul Wahab supervised the comprehensive development of preventive medicine, by the promotion of health education and programs on combating smoking. He participated in the development of the comprehensive vaccination program based on the best standards and practices.
Dr. Abdul Wahab played a major role in the establishment of the Environment Protection Program in the UAE and GCC.
 
He worked as the Deputy Chairman of the High Committee for the Environment in UAE, chaired many teams for combating oil pollution, and contributed to the consolidation of environment joint working rules for the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment.
 
Dr. Abdul Wahab established the first technical team to monitor oil pollution across UAE coasts, the first environmental research lab in UAE and the first environment research ship. He contributed to the formation of many technical teams across GCC countries. In 1989, Dr. Abdul Wahab was awarded the Sheikh Rashid Award for Scientific Excellence from the Symposium of Culture & Sciences. 
 
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Dr. Abdul Wahab Yusuf Al Muhaideb is awarded Hamdan Award for Honoring Individuals Working in the field of Medicine & Health, for the 2017-2018 term.
