Under the generous patronage of the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and in scientific cooperation with the Gulf Heart Association, the 12th Annual Case Based Approach to Controversies in Cardiovascular Diseases was held from March 5th to 6th, 2022 at Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Convention Center (Airport).
Talking about the conference, Dr. Wael Al Mahmeed, President of the conference said, "This conference aims to consolidate the principle of interest in developing medical cadres and creating an incubating environment for experts and specialists in an effort to develop health services provided to all segments of society. One of the most important features of this conference is its presentation of all topics in the form of realistic cases, which encourages participation and dialogue among members. The list of speakers at the conference includes a number of specialists from Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic in the United States of America, and a group of prominent doctors in cardiovascular specialties from the country.”
Among the most prominent topics discussed during the conference were the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, as well as cases of left ventricular dysfunction and those associated with multiple vascular diseases. The scientific program also included a review of current recommendations for the use of anticoagulants and antiplatelets in various pathological conditions, such as in the case of atrial fibrillation, islet thrombosis, and heart attacks, as well as the role of preventive cardiology and emerging treatments for blood lipid disorders. This was in addition to discussing new therapeutic interventions and their results in cases of heart disease, by presenting the cases of mitral reflux patients and evaluating different treatment methods using surgery or others. The meeting also discussed the results and complications resulting from the replacement of the aortic valve by catheter and valve implants or the use of the mitral valve clip.
Among the important cases that discussed were peripheral vascular diseases, as well as the carotid and coronary arteries, with special focus on valve diseases with the help of some cases related to congenital diseases related to the circulatory system. Special focus was given on the treatment of heart failure cases and the role of the medical teams' approach in dealing with these cases, in addition to electrophysiology and pacemakers, as well as in cases of early ventricular systole.
The conference aimed to attract healthcare professionals who play a role in the care of patients with cardiovascular diseases, including cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, internal medicine specialists, residents, physician assistants, nurses, and staff specialized in supportive medical services in the care of cardiovascular patients.
