Hamdan Medical Award participates in a conference about the doctors responsibility from the Islamic perspective in Kuwait 29 March 2015
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences participated in a conference organized by the Islamic Organization for Medical Sciences (IOMS) about the doctors responsibility towards the medical errors from the Islamic perspective ( 26 to 28 March). The Conference was held in collaboration with the World Health Organization, the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Islamic Fiqh Academy, the Muslim World League and the Health Ministers’ council for GCC states.
 
Under the patronage of His Highness the Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the conference was opened by His Excellency Yaacoub Abdul-Mohsen Al-Sanaa, Minister of Justice and Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. During the opening ceremony, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Awadi, the head of the IOMS, delivered a speech during which he paid tribute to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler, UAE Minister of Finance and the patron of the award, for his tireless efforts in supporting the humanitarian field and in encouraging the science and scientists worldwide.
 
Also, Dr. Ahmed al-Hashemi, a member of the Board of Trustees of Hamdan Medical Award, delivered the award’s speech during which he extended the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum to all the attendees wishing them all the success in discussing one of the most important issues in the Arab countries, particularly in the GCC countries.
 
“The doctors responsibility towards the medical errors from the Islamic perspective is a topic still in need for further research in order to meet the challenges of the modern era, and to overcome the obstacles which are resulted from the practical application of laws in many Islamic countries around the world”, he added. 
 
“The United Arab Emirates is one of the Islamic countries which are interested in organizing the physicians’ responsibility in line with the principles of Islam. This is an important step towards enhancing the health care sector and towards supporting the medical excellence“.
 
“Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences is proud to be a partner to the health authorities in improving the medical services locally, regionally and internationally”, Dr. Ahmed al-Hashemi said.
 
“Since its establishment in 1999, the award has become an impetus to upgrading the medical services through honoring the outstanding scientists in the medical sector worldwide and through supporting the continuing medical education, the scientific research, particularly the genetic studies, and the medical publishing”.
 
“The award has honored 65 winners of the international awards, 23 winners of the Arab World Awards and the 69 winners of the United Arab Emirates awards. Also, the award has supported 97 studies within the United Arab Emirates which played a significant role in improving the medical services locally and internationally”, he said.
 
During the conference, Dr. Ahmed al-Hashemi delivered a lecture about the doctors’ professional error. The lecture defined the meaning of the crime and its corners, and dealt with the differences between the ignorant doctor and the professional doctor. Also, the lecture reviewed the differences between the intentional error and unintentional error from the Islamic perspective, and talked about the complainant and the investigation authority.
