Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences witnesses the opening of Thalassemia Centre in fujairah 17 October 2011
Prof. Najeeb Al Khaja, Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, witnessed the opening of Thalassemia Centre at Fujairah Hospital by HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the UAE President’s Advisor.
 
The opening was attended by Mr. Abdullah Bin Souqat Executive Director of the Award, Dr. Mahmoud Taleb Al Ali, director of the award’s Centre for Arab Genomic Studies, Dr. Ghazi Tadmoury Assistant Director of the Centre and a galaxy of officials of the UAE health sector.
 
In his speech during the opening ceremony, HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan said that the opening of Thalassemia Center is a valuable addition to the UAE’s medical and healthcare facilities, and goes in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, concerning providing comprehensive medical care for all patients throughout UAE.
 
HH Dr. Sheikh Al Nahyan said that the center is a contribution of Sultan Bin Khalifa association for Humanitarian Services and scientific development concerning providing required treatment for patients with thalassemia in UAE, as they require a long and expensive journey of treatment.
 
On the other hand, Dr. Najeeb Al Khaja, Secretary General of the Award praised the great achievement of HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa which reflects HH responding to the suffering of patients with Thalassemia, helping them not to travel on a regular base to neighboring emirates for treatment.
 
Al Khaja also referred to the high quality of the Center which is equipped with the latest medical equipments, more than 25 beds, a room for middle care, an Internet cafe with a library and a hall for games.
