RAK Medical and Health Sciences University honors Hamdan Medical Award 26 May 2013
RAK Medical and Health Sciences University (RAKMHSU) honored Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award (HMA) for Medical Sciences in recognition of its significant role in serving the health sector, particularly the annual students' scientific conference. During the opening ceremony of the 4th RAKMHSU Students Scientific Conference, Mr. Abdullah bin Souqat, Executive Director of HMA, received the university's honorary shield from Dr. Gurumadhva Rao, Vice Chancellor of RAKMHSU. The conference was held under the title "Cancer in the United Arab Emirates" at the University's auditorium with the participation of 54 scientific papers by the students of the University presented as lectures, posters or videos.
 
Following the opening ceremony, Abdullah bin Souqat expressed his pleasure for the Award's honoring. He said that the conference prepares tomorrow's doctors for the labor market through strengthening their research and analysis skills to find the practical solutions for the health issues in the society, applying the principles of the scientific research and its tools, organizing scientific conferences in early stages of their academic life, sharing the experiences and medical knowledge and learning the latest scientific systems followed in the medical field.
 
 
"HMA participated in the conference through a lecture delivered by Dr. Abdul Rezzak Hamzeh, Senior Scientific coordinator of HMA's Center for Arab Genomic Studies entitled "Insights into Cancer Genetics Research in the Arab world". The study analyzes the data from the Catalogue for Transmission Genetics in Arabs (CTGA) Database to mine useful information about Cancers in the Arab World and the factors pertinent to cancers in this region, such as consanguinity", he added. 
 
"Also, HMA participated in the accompanied exhibition with the aim of briefing the future doctors on the activities of HMA and its centers which aim at improving the performance of the healthcare professionals including the Awards Center, Centre for Arab Genomic Center, Continuing Medical Education Center, Center for Supporting scientific research within the UAE and community service and Hamdan Medical Journal", Bin Souqat added.
 
On the sidelines of the conference, Dr. Gurumadhva Rao, Vice Chancellor of RAKMHSU, held a closed-door meeting attended by Dr. Abdul Rezzak Hamzeh, Senior Scientific coordinator, and Mrs. Pratibha Nair, Senior researcher Assistant, HMA's Center for Arab Genomic Studies, alongside with representatives of the American University of Ras Al Khaimah and the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory. The meeting discussed the ways to enhance the future multilateral research collaboration and a decision was made to form a committee to facilitate such collaborative efforts.
