Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences held a meeting with the members of its scientific committees at Ayla hotel, Al Ain, to discuss the preparations for the Award Ceremony, during which the winners of the 7th term of the Award will be honored, and the 7th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences from 10 to 12 December at Dubai International Convention and exhibitions Centre. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Al-Hashemi, a member, the Award’s Board of Trustees, Prof. Yousef Abdulrazzaq, Chairman, the Scientific Committee and Mr. Abdullah Bin Souqat, Executive Director.

 

At the beginning, Dr. Ahmed Al-Hashemi said that he carries a message of appreciation from the Award’s Board of Trustees to the members of the scientific committees as recognition of their tireless efforts throughout the previous two years, during which they have made considerable efforts in the selection of the local, Arab and international winners.

 

“The Scientific committee of the Award includes a galaxy of significant doctors and scientists. Previously, the Scientific Committee has selected Prof. Robert G. Edwards to be the winner of Hamdan medical Award, at its second term 2001-2002. And after around 8 years, he has become the laureate of Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2010. It means that, over the past fourteen years, the Award has managed to highlight the outstanding physicians and researchers from inside and outside UAE”, Al-Hashimi said.

 

Mr. Abdullah Bin Souqat, Executive Director, referred to the importance of supporting the ways of communication between the members of the Scientific Committees and the winners. He said: “the winners are a real value and we have to take advantage of the opportunity of hosting them in UAE to promote the health sectors locally, regionally and internationally. He added that as a part of achieving that goal, the winners of the International Awards will participate in the 7th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences.

 

At the end of the meeting, Prof. Yousef Abdulrazzaq, Chairman, Scientific Committee, said that the competition-winning Hamdan Medical Hamdan was strong, particularly the Arab world Awards, because of the large number of nominations from scientists, doctors and institutions with a high level. In spite of all these challenges, the Scientific Committees of the Award, in collaboration with the international referees, has managed to select the winners in all fairness and transparency.

 

“During the Closing Ceremony of the 7th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences, the new topics of the 8th term of the Award 2013 – 2014 will be announced. These topics address a critical medical specialty at all levels locally, regionally and internationally”, Prof. Abdul Razzaq said.

 

It is worth mentioning that during the Award Ceremony, the whole names of the winners of Hamdan Award for Honoring Individuals Working in the field of Medicine and Health in UAE will be announced. And regarding to the 7th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Health Authority gave the directives of the free registration for the conference for those who wish to participate from the health sectors.
