Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Dubai 6th International Conference for Medical Sciences Begins Next Sunday 08 December 2010
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Patron of Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences, the Dubai 6th International Conference for Medical Sciences will begin next Sunday under the slogan “confronting diabetes”.
 
 The conference will include several activities such as: Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum will receive the certificate of honorary fellowship by Royal Physicians Collage in London and holding MENA Diabetes Leadership Forum, ceremony of Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences and Emirates Endocrinology Congress 2010.
 
The UAE Ministry of Health and Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award as well as Emirates Endocrinology Association held a press conference today morning “Wednesday 8th December” in world trade centre to announce the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance to this important event that gathers three activities for the first time to ensure the cooperation of all authorities and face diseases especially diabetes.
 
It is worth mentioning to know that Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences is considered one of the most important medical conferences that is held every two years in the UAE coinciding with Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences. This year’s conference deals with all matters related to the developments of medical sciences and health researches under the same theme “diabetes” due to its importance and as part of the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership and cabinet’s decisions. Diabetes has been the main topic of grand Sheikh Hamdan International Award for the term 2009/2010 while obesity, osteoporosis and thyroid gland are the main themes of Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence.
 
Dubai 6th International Conference for Medical Sciences Begins Next Sunday
 
Dr. Salem Abdul Rahman Al Darmaki, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health emphasized that the conference aims for implementing the instructions of the UAE’s wise leadership and federal government to provide healthcare services to locals and residents, unify efforts and activate cooperation with all authorities and organizations.
 
On behalf of the Ministry of Health, Al Darmaki thanked His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his continuous efforts in enhancing such conferences, encouraging medical researches and supporting researches and scientists in medical sciences.
 
The Dubai 6th International Conference for Medical Sciences will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance on 12th December for five days in Dubai InterContinental Festival City beginning with the MENA Diabetes Leadership Forum between 12-13 December.
 
On 13th December, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences will be take place followed by the Emirates Endocrinology Congress between 14-16 December.
 
Al Darmaki explained that the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance to the Award and the diabetes week under the umbrella of the Dubai 6th International Conference for Medical Sciences assures the interests of His Highness Sheikh Khelifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President and the instructions of the federal government led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai to the public health of the community members and fight diseases and their complications.
 
Al Darmaki also added that international renowned leaders will participate in the MENA Diabetes Leadership Forum that focuses on such an important health topic and drives the community to participate effectively in fighting diabetes pointing out that these include Bill Clinton, the former US President, Prince Fredrick, Crown Prince of Denmark, and Dr. Alaa Elwan, expert in the World Health Organization in addition to the Executive Office of the GCC Health Ministers Council.
 
Furthermore, Dr. Mahmoud Fikri, Assistant Undersecretary for Health Policies at the Ministry of Health, explained that the MENA Diabetes Leadership Forum will be held between 12-13 December to review the local, regional and international health strategies about diabetes being one of the national health priorities in the region, concentrate on primary prevention, early screening, acknowledge the best treatment techniques, provide best healthcare services for diabetes patients and support maternity and childhood services.
 
Dr. Fikri also emphasized that the forum aims for reviewing the results of international meetings and regional recommendations related to this field under the title “United trends to face challenges” pointing out that the organization of the international forum in Dubai is another addition to the accomplishments of the Ministry of Health to fight diabetes while the attendance of a vast number of scientists and experts activate the participation and societal cooperation of authorities and institutes.
 
He also explained that the forum will be attended by 700 participants representing health leaders who gather to fight diabetes in the MENA region and the numbers of speakers reaches 50 representing international organizations and authorities. The forum’s morning session will highlight the United Nations Summit for Non-Communicable Diseases on September 2011 in addition to six sessions about diabetes, prevention and protection strategies, challenges in the region, selection of best strategies to health and medical interference. His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim, UAE Minister of Health will speak in the opening session at 5 pm in the attendance of Bill Clinton, former US President and Lars Rebien Sørensen, President and CEO of Novo Nordisk to be ended by the Diabetes Dubai Declaration and the announcement of the MENA Diabetes Ambassadors.
 
In addition, Emil Larsen, Vice President for Global Public Affairs at Novo Nordisk, said: “Novo Nordisk is happy to co-organize and sponsor the MENA Diabetes Leadership Forum to highlight the dangers of diabetes and protection”.
 
Larsen explained that the importance of the forum goes back to the studies of the Diabetes International Federation which confirmed that in 20 years the gulf region will occupy the first rank worldwide. The Forum is hosted by the UAE Ministry of Health, together with the executive board for the Health Ministers’ Council for GCC States (GCC), the World Bank Group (MENA region) and the World Diabetes Foundation. Media groups such as Al-Arabiya, Forbes Middle East and the International Herald Tribune are among the media partners.
 
Lars added that the Forum gathers policy-makers, government officials, international organizations, healthcare professionals, and people with diabetes and media to discuss solutions to the diabetes pandemic. The Diabetes Leadership Forum initiative aims to bring about change with Novo Nordisk in the role of facilitator, partner and knowledge resource. By mobilizing relevant stakeholder groups (patient groups, expert community, private sector, NGOs and international organizations), the Forums work to move diabetes up the public health agenda and get stakeholders to commit to national targets for improved diabetes care. They aim to encourage all parties to take action and drive change through discussion of national diabetes strategies, prevention and early detection of diabetes, access to care, and improved quality of care.  
 
Furthermore, Abdulla Bin Souqat, Executive Director for Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences pointed out that the sixth Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences gathers several events and highlights cooperation among all associations to fight diseases especially diabetes.
 
The award will honor the winners of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences under the umbrella of the diabetes week.
 
Bin Souqat, Executive Director for the Award, emphasized that holding the Ceremony of the 6th term of Sheikh Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences within the diabetes week coincides with the strategy of the award that is established by its patron His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and ensures all integrated efforts by the UAE ministries, authorities and establishments to achieve the required results and raise the health care services inside and outside the country.
 
Bin Souqat added that the winners of both Grand Hamdan International Award and Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence will be the main keynote speakers of the Emirates Endocrinology Congress 2010 that will be held during the Dubai Diabetes Week between 14-16 December. The award will also announce the winners of Hamdan Award for Honoring UAE Individuals Working in the Field of medicine and health for the sixth term “2009-2010”.
 
He added that on the top of major events of 6th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences is that  the patron of the award H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum  Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE minister of finance will be honored by Royal Physicians Collage in London by receiving certificate of honorary fellowship.
 
Dr. Abdul Razaq Al Madani, President of Emirates Diabetes and Endocrinology Association, said: “The Emirates Endocrinology Congress 2010 will be held between 14-16 December under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance as part of the diabetes week to ensure the cooperation of all bodies in fighting diseases especially diabetes”.
 
He also explained that the scientific Congress will bring together the world’s best international physicians and researchers from the United States, Australia, and Europe in addition to leading authorities from our area to present the latest trends and clinical trials as well as share best practices, and how to raise the standards of medical care in the UAE
The scientific Congress will bring together the world’s best international physicians to discuss up to date information on current research and findings in this field of medicine. This meeting will be also a platform for the scientists who were honored by receiving the prestigious Sheikh Hamdan Awards for Medical Sciences.
 
Al Madani explained that the scientific congress will cover the different aspects of epidemiology and management of diabetes, with a specific focus on cutting edge information and the results of recent developments in this field.
 
There will be scientific sessions addressing the growing prevalence of diabetes in the United Arab Emirates, the impact of diabetes as the world’s greatest public health challenge, the role of science in the battle to overcome the global diabetes epidemic, the challenge of type 2 diabetes in the young population, promising new strategies in the treatment of type 1 diabetes, and cardiovascular risks associated with diabetes, such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
 
“As part of the Congress there were will be workshops on variety of topics related to endocrinology and diabetes: review of common disorders in pediatric endocrinology, gestational diabetes, resistant hypertension, Insulin pump therapy, Polycystic ovary disease, and role of diabetes education, Exercise as a treatment for diabetes, Insulin injections techniques, recent advances in Osteoporosis”, he ended.
