Hamdan Award for Honouring Individuals Working in the Field of Medicine & Health

The first Emirati citizen to specialize in the field of endocrinology and diabetes, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al Madani graduated from the College of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo. He joined Dubai Health Authority as a practicing physician at Rashid Hospital, before obtaining the Fakh Arts Certificate in internal medicine and endocrinology, in addition to the honorary fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh & Glasgow.
 
After returning from Germany, he joined the medical team at Dubai Hospital. Since 1993, Dr. Madani worked as a consultant of internal medicine and endocrinology, before being promoted to Hospital Director in 2002, in which position he continued till 2009. He then went on to act as CEO of the hospital till March 2014. Under his management, Dubai Hospital received the international accreditation certificate, and successfully carried out a successful conjoined twins separation operation.
 
Dr. Al Madani established and is currently the Chairman of both the Emirates Diabetes Society, and the GCC Group for Diabetes Studies. He has worked relentlessly to combat diabetes across the region, by educating the public, and through field visits to villages and remote spots in UAE. He has coordinated many educational conferences and courses regarding diabetes and endocrinology among medical staff in the UAE and GCC. Dr. Al Madani enhanced the position of the Emirates Diabetes Society at the International Diabetes Federation (“IDF”), as a consequence of which, the UAE was selected as the first country in the Middle East to host the IDF International Conferences in Dubai in 2011 and Abu Dhabi in 2017.
 
Dr. Al Madani received the Sheikh Rashid Scientific Achievement Award in 1988 and the Distinguished Employee in Administrative Fields Award within the Dubai Government Excellence Program in 2002.
 
Dr. Al Madani has published several studies and delivered many lectures in the fields of diabetes. He is currently the Editor-inChief for the “Living Positively with Diabetes” Magazine, a social initiative launched by the Emirates Diabetes Society.
 
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ali Al Madani is awarded Hamdan Award for Honoring Individuals Working in the field of Medicine & Health, for the 2017-2018 term.
