H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid opens the largest electricity and water station in the UAE 09 April 2013
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance, and President of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), opened DEWA's 'M Station' for electricity generation and water desalination in Jebel Ali. The new station is a part of DEWA's efforts to meet the increasing current and future needs of the Emirate of Dubai, which is a reflection of the expansion in the urban prosperity and economic advancement.
 
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid, accompanied by VIPs, conducted an introductory tour of the station and its various divisions, which are equipped with state-of-the-art technological systems, with a total cost exceeded AED 10 billion and with a 2,060 MW electricity and 140 million imperial gallons of desalinated water per day. 
 
During the opening ceremony, H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA delivered a speech in which he said: "On behalf of the board of directors and all staff at DEWA, I welcome H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance, and President of DEWA, who honors us today with his presence to commemorate this impressive construction". He added: "The on-going support and guidance from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan has had a profound impact on the development of DEWA to fulfill its part in meeting the requirements of our ambitious plans in various sectors". 
 
"Securing the supply of electricity and water to ensure sustainability in the long-term is critical to achieving the vision of our government, and DEWA is committed to planning in advance to meet our future demands. It is in line with this strategic vision that we gather today to launch a new national milestone, which adds to DEWA's international accomplishments in the past five decades," he added.
 
The opening ceremony was attended by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy; H.E. Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazroui, UAE Minister of Energy; H.E. Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of International Cooperation and Development; H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Public Works; H.E. Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State; the DEWA's Board of Directors members and executive representatives of the Chairman, senior officials of the UAE ministries and government departments and media representatives.
