Under the auspices of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences: 250 doctors perform the exam of the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine in Dubai 09 April 2013
Under the auspices of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and for the successive second year, Dubai hosted the exam of the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine approved by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine at the Crown Plaza Hotel. 250 specialized doctors performed the exam from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Iran, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Australia, Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria (including 60 doctors from UAE).
 
Abdullah Bin Souqat, Executive Director of Hamdan Medical Award, said: "Hamdan Medical Award supports the exam as a part of its commitments to develop the local, regional and global healthcare sectors. Continuing Medical Education for physicians from within and outside the country is a top priority of the Award. Doctors are one of the most important elements in the healthcare system have to be supported by all possible means".
 
Bin Souqat welcomed Prof. Marco Maggiorini, Chairman of the Education and Training Committee, European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, and the supervisor of the examination. Also, he thanked the Society for selecting the UAE to be the only non-European country to host the exam in order to encourage more doctors from all over the world to enhance their professional performance, particularly doctors from the Middle East region. 
 
On the other side, Dr. Hussein Nasser Al Rahma, President of the International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society, the Chairman of the Emirates Intensive Care Society and the local supervisor of the exam, said that the exam was held in Dubai in conjunction with Spain, England, Ireland, Austria and Netherlands. He added: "The objective of holding the first part of the exam in Dubai, the theoretical part, is to enhance the professional performance of physicians through increasing the number of the Diploma holders all over the world, especially in the Middle East countries".
"90% of the examinees participated in the 9th Emirates Critical Care Conference recently concluded in Dubai, during which workshops were held on how to answer the questions of the exam. The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine has approved on holding the theoretical part of the exam annually in Dubai in conjunction with the Emirates Critical Care Conference. Currently, the arrangements are taken to hold the practical part of the exam in Dubai by training examiners from UAE by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine", Al Rahma said.
 
It is noteworthy that the exam will be corrected electronically at the European Society of Critical Care Medicine headquarter, and the passed doctors will perform the second part of the exam, the practical exam, at the accredited European centers and hospitals.
