Al Khaja chairs the meeting of the Editorial Board of Hamdan Medical Journal 10 February 2013
Prof. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, chaired the meeting of the Editorial Board of Hamdan Medical Journal (HMJ). The purpose of the meeting was to monitor the achievements of the journal, in the light of its strategic plan which aims at reaching the journal to the ranks of the best specialized medical journals regionally and globally.
 
The meeting was held at the Seminar room of Dubai Medical College for girls, Rashid Hospital, Library Auditorium, in the presence of the staff of HMJ including Prof. Harald Rosen, Editor-in-Chief, Mrs. Pippa Smart, consultant, and the members of the Editorial Board including a galaxy of significant specialists from the UAE faculties of medicine and Vienna University.
 
"Starting from March 2012, HMJ has published 3 issues in both electronic and printed format. Each issue dealt with an important topic which is considered a big challenge for those working in the health sector; Breast Cancer, Diabetes and Fetal Medicine. 49 articles were published, and the web site was visited by18.863 visitors from 111 countries. The 3 coming issues of the Journal will deal with 3 important topics including Coronary Artery Disease, Prostate Cancer and Incontinence. 25 original papers have been already accepted to be published in them", Prof. Najib Al Khaja said.
 
"Upon the directives of the patron of the Award, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid, the journal has become a bridge between the scientists in the Middle East region and the scientists all over the world. The regional articles have a good chance to be published in the journal after being reviewed and evaluated by the international reviewers", Al Khaja referred to the limitless support by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Health Authority.
 
"The meeting discussed the idea of organizing a workshop with the participation of a group of experts, in order to discuss the practical ways to achieve the main objectives of the HMJ on the ground, especially the index issue", Al Khaja added.
 
"During the meeting, four proposals were presented within the context of strengthening the cooperation between Vienna University and Hamdan Medical Award in the field of the continuing medical education. These proposals deal with 4 important medical specialties including Diabetes, Pelvic Diseases, Cardiovascular Diseases and Urological Ultrasound. Depending on its importance for the local and regional doctors, the best proposals will be implemented by Hamdan Medical Award within UAE during its current term 2013-2014", Al Khaja said.
 
It is noteworthy that the website of the Hamdan Medical Journal is published open access - there is no restriction on accessing the articles and no subscription required. Also, the journal is a member of the International Committee on Publication Ethics. The web site of HMJ is able to provide seamless linking from the articles to the articles that they cite. This allows readers to follow a trail of research - from article to article to article. The web site provides search mechanisms that readers can use to find similar content on other trusted biomedical and health websites.
