The Trophy for the Sheikh Hamdan Award for the Best Clinical Department in the UAE (2019-2020) was presented to the Department of Radiology at brief function hosted at MRI Centre in the Rashid Hospital. The presentation was made by HE Mr. Abdulla Bin Souqat, Executive Director and HE Dr. Ahmed Al Hashemi, Member of the Board of Trustees of the Award to Dr. Usama Al Bastaki, Head of the Department. Dr. Bastaki was accompanied by Dr. Fahd Baslaib, CEO of Rashid Hospital, Dr Mansour Nadhari, Medical Director of Rashid Hospital and Mr. Hamad Attar, Finance & Administration Director. 

 

The Department was selected as one of the recipients of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences in the Award ceremony, which was held virtually on 9th December, 2020, in deference to the current pandemic situation. The Award recognize outstanding achievements in research, education, and public service.

 

While presenting the Award, Mr. Abdulla Bin Souqat, addressed the gathering about the vision of the Patron of the Award, the Late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who had been very keen about the development of the community by supporting Education, Health and Environment. To fulfill this vision, the three Awards had been established 22 years back on his advice. Mr. Abdulla was very emotional while narrating about Sheikh Hamdan and his concern about the community and the society. Mr. Abdulla added that the Award is not only for the UAE and the region but also for the whole world. He congratulated the head and the team members of the department on this great achievement.

 

Dr. Ahmed Al Hashemi, Member of the Board of Trustees, presenting the Certificate of Excellence to the Head of the Department of Radiology, Dr. Usama, said that this department truly deserves this award and had been selected and recommended by the Scientific Committee in light of its evident achievements. He added that Sheikh Hamdan always talked about the medical community which plays an important role by giving services to the public. He congratulated the department and said that the winning of the award is an achievement in itself, but it will also serve as a motivation for other departments to excel in their areas of service.

 

 

While receiving the Award, Dr. Fahd Baslaib said to the members of the Department and       the gathered audience and to the officials of the Award that winning this award is a real motivation to all in the Hospital to improve patient care, provide excellent services and  get the best output to the patients and that this should be the prime responsibility of the department. He added that he was very proud to be a part of the team that received such a prestigious award in the name of our Late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum  and congratulated the Department for their excellence.

 

Dr. Usama Al Bastaki, Head of the Department of Radiology made a warm welcome to everybody and conveyed his thanks and regards for selecting his department for the award. He said his department would not have achieved this status without the support of his team members and their hard work and timely intervention in taking care of the patients. He conveyed the message from the CEO of the Hospital to all members of his department to work hard to bring to the level of Centre of Excellence in the future.

 

 

The department is a vital contributor to the customer journey of acute stroke patients, trauma patients, cardiac patients and COVID 19 patients by providing medical imaging on time that saved lives, resources and time. The Radiology department has been working rigidly on service improvement and customer trust and happiness in both acute and chronic care settings. Being a vital contributor to the customer journey of acute stroke patients, the Door-to-Imaging time for acute stroke patients has been brought down to seven minutes average (2019) compared to international standard requirement of 15 minutes.
