Hamdan Award for Medical Sciences honors winners at the 10th Student Scientific Conference at RAK Medical and Health Sciences Uni 01 May 2019
Dubai-1st May 2019: The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences honored the best studies presented at the 10th Ras Al-Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University (RAKMHSU) Students Conference.
 
The conference was attended by H.E Abdullah bin Souqat, Executive Director, and  Dr. Shereen Hamada, Senior Scientific Coordinator, Hamdan Medical Award, Pratibha Nair, Senior Researcher, CAGS, Dr. S Gurumadhva Rao Vice President, RAKMHSU, Dr. Manal Mahmoud Sami Mohammed, Dr.Suad Hennawi, Consultant Rheumatology and Head of the Rheumatology Committee at the Ministry of Health and Society, United Arab Emirates, Dr. Khalid Jarish, Assistant Professor of Molecular Medicine and Head of Nanotechnology Research at Princess Jawhara Center, Gulf Arab University, Kingdom of Bahrain, and a number of the University’s officials, graduates and students.
 
On the occasion of the 10th year of the conference, HE Abdullah Bin Sougat delivered a speech, through which he expressed his happiness for the success of the conference for the tenth year in a row. He also stressed the keenness of the Award, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Dubai Health Authority, and Patron of the Award, to promote the culture of scientific research and encourage research initiatives of young researchers to create a new generation of innovators.
In his speech, Dr. S Gurumadhva Rao said, ‘’On the occasions of the 10th RAKMHSU students scientific Conference, I congratulate our students for their unwavering enthusiasm and the zeal to participate in the research projects with the guidance from the faculty and present their work in the form of paper/ poster’’.
Dr. Manal said, “We are extremely fortunate to have the support of the prestigious Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and I take this opportunity to express our heartiest gratitude to The Award Board for the substantial endorsement and generous sponsorship of the conference awards.’
“In fact, the overwhelming response from students and faculty has prompted us to expand the activities of the conference to include an exclusive track for the graduate students, video competitions, innovative projects and the recently-introduced Laboratory-based research presentations as well as the poster sessions and the parallel exhibitions, not to mention the outstanding presentations by elite national, regional and international guest speakers.  Overall, the conference discussed more than 450 research projects under the theme of common health problems in UAE and witnessed the attendance of more than 3800 delegates”, she added
 
The conference concluded with announcing the names of the winners. The Graduate student special prize was awarded to the research titled ‘’ Assessment and Evaluation of Potential Drug-Drug Interactions and Adverse Drug Reactions among Chronic Kidney Disease Patients of a Secondary Care Hospital of Ras Al Khaimah’’. Four studies from the category of laboratory-based research and three studies from the survey based research category were awarded for their oral presentations. In the category of studies presented as posters, two prizes were awarded. The University Award for Innovation had three winners. In addition, a video entitled “Vaccines Cause Autism” was selected as the best video presented during the conference.
