A group of esteemed scientists joins the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies 09 October 2018
Dubai-9th October2018: The Center of Arab Genomics Studies (CAGS), a division of the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences (HMA), announced the addition of new member scientists to the Executive Board and the Arab Council, in a step to better represent the various Arab countries, and to increase its network of expertise.
 
Dr. Mahmoud Taleb Al-Ali, the Director of CAGS, expressing his happiness with the new additions, said, “with the active participation of the new and the existing members, CAGS would be able to provide an impetus to expand the activities of CAGS and further enhance the representation of the Centre in international forums”.
 
Dr. Al Ali added that the following members have been added to the Arab Council of CAGS, widening the representation of Arab counties: Dr. Rana Dajani from Hashemite University in Jordan, Dr. Muntaser ElTayeb Ibrahim from University of Khartoum in Sudan, Dr. Inas Mazen from National Research Centre in Egypt, Prof. Fowzan AlKuraya from King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Laila Bastaki from Kuwait Medical Genetic Center in Kuwait, Dr. Maryam Al-Shehhi from National Genetics Center in Oman, Dr. Wassim Almawi from University of Tunis El Manar in Tunisia, and Dr. Abdelhamid Barakat from Pasteur Institute in Morocco.
 
“Moreover, a new Advisory Committee has been established, whose purpose will be to provide organizational direction and strategic planning for the Centre, according to its vision, mission and objectives. This committee consists of Dr. Najat Rashid from the UAE Ministry of Health, Dr. Mouza Al-Sharhan from Dubai Hospital, Prof. Aida Al Aqeel from Riyadh Military Hospital in Saudi Arabia, Prof. Hanan Hamamy from University of Geneva in Switzerland, Prof. Giovanni Romeo from University of Bologna in Italy, Prof. Rabah Shawky from Ain Shams University in Egypt, Prof. Habiba Chaabouni from Tunis University in Tunisia, and Dr. Sadika Al-Awadi from Down Syndrome Society in Kuwait”, he said.
 
On his part, HE Abdulla Bin Souqat, CEO of HMA conveyed sincere thanks and gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Deputy Ruler of Dubai, the UAE Minister of Finance and the Patron of the Award for his continuous support to the activities and scientific research activities in the country. He also praised the important role played by the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies in the field of genetic medicine in the Arab world.
