Launching of the 6th Biennial Emirates Physiotherapy Conference Events 30 April 2018

Dubai-30th pf April 2018: Under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance, and President of the Dubai Health Authority, the 6th Biennial Emirates Physiotherapy Conference was inaugurated with workshops held today Monday 30th of April 2018 at the Emirates Medical Association in Mamzar.

Naima Mohamed Saleh, head of the conference’s scientific committee, commented: “We had made it a point to organize workshops alongside plenary lectures to help enhance physiotherapists’ technical skills and because there was a lack of satisfaction with lectures alone. There are six scheduled workshops centered on the diagnosis and treatment of neck injuries, the first of which will span over two days. The workshop will be led by Dr. Gwendolen Jull, Emeritus Professor at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Queensland, Australia. She has over 300 publications is a coauthor 40 textbooks and has written 3 physiotherapeutic guides. Her workshops will be focused on the treatment of neck vertebra injuries, tailoring treatment frameworks to the patient, and recent findings in the clinical literature. Training sessions will also be held throughout the conference.”

She added: “A second pre-conference course will hold lectures and training sessions focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder tendinopathies, which will be held by Dr. Lori Michener, Director of Clinical Outcomes and Research, and Director of the COOR (Clinical Biomechanics, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Outcomes Research) Laboratory and Professor in the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California. Her research explores diagnostic techniques of functional loss arising from shoulder disorders, which include ultrasonography, kinematics and electromyography.”

An expected 40 locally and internationally-based physiotherapy specialists will be attending the conference, who will obtain continuing medical education hours accredited by the Dubai Health Authority.
