Launching of the 9th Gulf Thoracic Congress 19 March 2018

The 9th Gulf Thoracic Congress was inaugurated under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority. The congress received a number of locally and internationally-based thoracic surgeons and specialists at the InterContinental Hotel in Dubai Festival City.

Dr. Mohammed Hajjaj, President of the Saudi Thoracic Society, expressed his utmost happiness at being able to hold this conference with the support of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, which has enabled collaboration between the Saudi Thoracic Society and Emirates Allergy and Respiratory Society. Furthermore, the Award’s support has contributed towards the congress’s continuing success in past years.

He added: “GulfThoracic is taking place for its 9th edition with the cooperation of the Emirates Allergy and Respiratory Society, American Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society, Meakins-Christie Laboratories – McGill University, and the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, with special participation from The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA, The Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, UK, and Saudi Society for Respiratory Care (SSRC). The conference has, once again, forums for thoracic surgeons and medical students, and Meakins-Christie Laboratories will be holding a seminar on asthma. The organizing committee has worked hard for this conference to be scientifically and socially stimulating, and it will, without a doubt, be an outstanding opportunity for sharing knowledge of the wide spectrum of clinical issues to be discussed.”

His Excellency Abdulla Bin Souqat, Executive Manager of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, stated: “It is without a doubt that the events of the Gulf Thoracic Congress are of great importance to us, especially in the Gulf Region, because we are aware of the immense social and financial struggles that patients inflicted with these conditions are faced with, as well as the mortality rates attributable to these illnesses.”

He added: “Events such as this one present a valuable opportunity for doctors and healthcare professionals, within the country and internationally, to share experiences and knowledge. Additionally, they serve as a channel through which these individuals are made aware of the latest developments in medical treatments and research.”

He also emphasized that the UAE has put numerous scientific plans in place to serve as a basis upon which the medical sciences can grow, and for us to fully invest in medical research and conferences, both of which serve to enrich our collective knowledge and understanding of these fields and how to further develop them.
