DIAD-DIAL concludes Second Edition of its Dual Meeting 03 March 2018

Today marks the end of the Second Edition of the Dubai International Academy of Dermatopathology and the Dubai International Academy of Laser and Aesthetic Dermatology Dual Meeting, which held a clinical exhibition, lectures, training and digital workshops, and seminars to over 400 specialists based in Dubai and internationally.

Examiners from the European Board of Pathology held a mock session for the Board Exam to allow practitioners at the conference a chance to prepare and practice. Also held was the DIAD International Case Presentation Competition, and Professor M. Ramam, President of the Dermatopathology Society of India, led a workshop on presenting cases of skin and tissue disorders and rare tumors.

Dr. Faiza Al Ali, Consultant Dermatopathologist and Dermatologist at the Dubai Health Authority and Chairman of DIAD-DIAL, described new developments in the Second Edition of the Meeting. Among these are a multispecialized forum comprised of practitioners from various specialties, including dermatology and cosmetic surgery, ophthalmology, dentistry, and obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Mohammed Naji will discuss latest treatments for lip and gum staining using laser technology. Ophthalmic surgeon Dr. Jacob Bennick will discuss the use of filler injections in the prevention and treatment of vision loss. Dr. Rashad Haddad, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist will also discuss developments in laser technology in the OB-GYN field.

Dr. Al Ali added that the DIAD-DIAL meeting has become a scientific platform for discovering emerging technologies. Professor Michael Barra from the United States and Professor Abdelaziz Al Aajlan from King Faisal Medical Center in Riyadh will deliver a joint lecture on the discovery of an original technology used in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disorders.

She also mentioned that the Meeting concluded with various recommendations, such as those stressing the necessity of diagnostic techniques for skin disorders at the microscopic level and the importance on regularly training practitioners on the latest technologies in the field, enhancing their clinical skills and minimizing side effects arising from insufficient training. It was also recommended that DIAD-DIAL collaborates with scientific committees to ensure the accreditation of clinical training and workshops. Also highlighted was the importance of using internationally-approved cosmetic materials in avoiding complications. Additionally, it is paramount that medical professionals are appropriately trained in the use of laser technologies to prevent burns and other complications.

The participants in the conference raised their thanks and appreciation to H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, Chairman of the Health Authority for his generous patronage and his support for this conference for the second year in a row.

The first forum for Women’s Elite was held under the title ‘Cosmetics as Appearance or Substance?’

The conference hosted Dr. Rabia Ghobash, Professor of Psychology, Founder of the Women’s Museum in Dubai, previous President of the Arab Gulf University in Bahrain, and President of the Network for Arab Women in Science and Technology, as an inspiring Emirati personality to discuss the role of psychology and cosmetic surgery.

The Forum will discuss its first evening at the St. Regis Al Habtoor Hotel, the scientific foundations of plastic medicine and the spread of practices that transformed the profession into a business and abused the essence of this science and to enrich the dialogue hosts the forum Dr. Alaa Aref Consultant of Dermatology and Cosmeticology in Saudi Arabia and specialized at Mount Sinai University in New York, USA As well as Dr. Shamayel Sanafi Consultant of skin diseases and cosmetics in Kuwait and specialized University of Pennsylvania, USA.

Rana Saab, a consultant, presents a presentation on the importance of appearance in many aspects and what benefits the individual and the institutions, the evening ended with the signing the book of UAE novelist Suad Al Shamsi.
