Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences Continues Its Awareness Campaign for Rare Diseases in 24 UAE Schools 21 February 2018

As part of the framework for the Awareness Campaign for Rare Diseases organized by the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences taking place over the course of this week, lectures on rare diseases held at 24 secondary schools in Fujairah, Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

the lectures were organized with the participation of a number of Emirati specialists including Dr. Fatima Bastaki, Consultant Pediatrician and Clinical Geneticist, Latifa Hospital, Dr. Fatima Al-Jasmi, Associate Professor, Metabolic Consultant at Tawam Hospital, and Dr. Noha Al-Zaabi, Pediatrician. Dr. Madeeha Fathi, and Dr. Amal Al Taneeji.

His Excellency Abdullah Bin Souqat, Executive Manager at Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, expressed his thanks to the officials at the UAE Ministry of Education for their cooperation with the Award in the organization of these lectures, which served to raise awareness of rare diseases to the largest possible population of secondary students in the UAE.

Dr. Fatima Al Bastaki has emphasized the importance of reaching out to students at this crucial stage in their education to teach them about rare diseases, and explains that educating this generation of students about the significance of early identification and preventive medicine would be the best way forward in preparing them to address these diseases, as they are suffered by many individuals and their families in society today.

The participating schools situated in Dubai are Al Sufouh Secondary School for Girls, Al Salam Secondary School for Girls, Asma Bint Al Naaman School for Girls, and Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Boys. Participating Schools in Abu Dhabi will be Umm Al Arab School for Girls, Al Shawamekh School for Girls, Al Riyadah School for Girls, Abu Dhabi School for Boys, Etihad School for Boys, and Darwish Bin Karam School for Boys. Lectures will also be held at Bahithat Al Bidayah School for Girl and Al Khalil Bin Ahmad School in Khorfakkan, and Al Mahmoud Secondary School and Bou Harid Secondary School for Girls in Kalbaa.

Additionally, lectures held at the following schools in Al Ain – Maryam Bint Sultan Secondary School for Girls, Al Jaheel School for Girls, Umm Al Emarat School for Girls, Al Dahmaa School for Boys, and Khalid Bin Al Waleed School for Boys.
