Hamdan Medical Award honors the distinguished studies in the RAKMHSU’s Students Scientific Conference 18 May 2016
May 18, 2016: Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences (HMA) honored the best studies presented at the 7th students Scientific Conference, which was recently organized by Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University (RAKMHSU).
Dr. Shereen Hamada, Senior Scientific Coordinator, Hamdan Medical Award, delivered the money prizes to the winners, with best wishes of the continuous success. 
 
“HMA is keen to raise the awareness among the young medical students within the UAE towards the important role played by the scientific research in improving the medical and health sectors through the application of new and innovative solutions”, she said.
 
Dr. Abdul Rezzaq Hamzeh, Senior coordinator of the HMA’s Centre for Arab Genomic Studies, and a member of the competition’s jury, praised the great efforts exerted by the students in preparing and conducting their studies by applying the principles of the scientific research.
 
“Such a practice is important for preparing new generations of researchers who will be able to achieve a quantum leap in the medical and health sectors in the future”, he added.
 
Concluding the conference, the special prize has been awarded to the presentation entitled "Assess the Competencies of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation among the Students in RAKMHSU”.
 
Regarding the Oral-Presentation category, the first prize was for the presentation entitled "Assessment of Awareness of Chronic Complications of Diabetes among Diabetes Mellitus Patients in Ras-Al Khaimah, UAE".
 
The second prize went for the research entitled "Prevalence bacteriological Profile, Maternal Risk Factor and Obstetric Outcome Analysis of Symptomatic Urinary, Tract Infections in pregnant Women in SAQR Hospital, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE".
 
The third place was for the search about the physical and psychological effects associated with acne. The fourth place was for a study entitled "Staphylococcus aureus: the Silent Wanderer of the Nose”.
 
Regarding the fifth place, it was for a presentation entitled "Screening of Potentially modifiable Risk Factors Associated with Myocardial Infection among University Students of RAKMHSU- a Pilot Study”. 
 
In the Poster Presentation category– Literature Review, the first place was for the presentation entitled “Nano Medicine in the Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus”. Also, the second prize was for the study “Effects of Cosmetics on Skin Mircroflora”.
 
Regarding the Poster Presentation category – Research, the first place was for the presentation entitled "Investigating Narcissism and its Health Effects on Medical students in RAKCOMS".
 
A study entitled "Subclavian Vein Thrombosis; A Case Report of an Elderly Patient Who Had Recurrent DVT Resulted in Both Lower Limb Amputation” won the second place. And finally, a study entitled “Health Sleep Keep Troubles Away – A Study on the Effects of Sleep Deprivation on Stress in undergraduate Students of RAKMHSY” won the prize of the third place.
