Under the auspices of Hamdan Medical Award: 147 specialists perform the exam of the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine in Dubai 06 April 2016
Under the auspices of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, and for the 5th consecutive year, Dubai has hosted the first part of the exam of the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (the written exam). For 3 hours, the exam was held this morning at the Events center, Dubai Festival City.
 
Organized by the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, the exam was performed by 147 candidates from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Pakistan, India, Denmark, Australia, and Canada.
 
Abdullah bin Souqat, a member of the Board of Trustees of Hamdan Medical Award, welcomed the examinees in the UAE where the exam is held concurrently with India, UK, Germany, Norway, Netherlands, Ireland and Spain.
 
He praised the cooperation between the award and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine to hold this exam in Dubai annually. He said: “This exam is in line with the main objectives of the award including improving the performance of healthcare professionals, in all specialties and institutions all over the region, in pursuit of medical excellence”.
 
“We have discussed with the representatives of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine the ways of strengthening the future cooperation by holding the second part of the exam in Dubai (the oral exam). The award emphasized on the need to overcome all the obstacles in the way of achieving this goal at the moment”, he said.
 
“The award is keen to hold the exam annually in conjunction with the Emirates Critical Care Conference, which will open its 12th session in Dubai tomorrow with the participation of about 1,200 specialists in critical care medicine from inside and outside the UAE”, He added.
 
For his part, Dr. Hussain Nasser Al Rahma, the President of the Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society, and the Emirates Intensive Care Society, and the local supervisor of the exam, said: “Over the previous five years, hundreds of specialists from the region preferred performing the exam in Dubai”.
 
“The candidates should be updated on the latest finding in critical care medicine to pass the exam”, he added. 
 
The exam was held under the supervision of 5 local specialists, the Diploma’s holders, from Dubai Hospital, Rashid Hospital, and AL Zahra Specialist Hospital. Also, attended the exam were the representatives of the society including Dr. Francesca Rubulotta, Chair of the division of professional Development, Dr. Frantisek Duska, Exam Committee, and Dr. Peter Walkaue, Instructor.
 
On the sidelines of the exam, Dr. Francesca Rubulotta, Chair of the division of professional Development, the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, appreciated the decision of holding the exam in Dubai. She said: “Dubai is among the most successful authorized centers in terms of the number of the candidates and the high-quality organizing process”.
 
“The rates of success in Dubai have exceeded 55%, and it is an equivalent rate to those achieved in the European centers”, she added.
 
“For minimum 2 years, the candidates for the exam should work as specialists in critical care units, as the exam does not only measure their knowledge, but also their skills and abilities to manage various cases clinically”, She added.
 
“I am looking forward to further cooperation with specialists in critical care medicine in the region in terms of measuring the performance standards as basis to design future training programs for this part of the world”, she said.
