Hamdan Medical Award announces the winners of the school students’ competition on Rare Diseases 25 February 2016

Abdullah bin Souqat, a member of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Director of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, announced the names of the winners of the school students’ competition on Rare Disease. “This competition is a part from the awareness campaign organized by the award on Rare Diseases from 21 till 26 February”, he said.

“The winners will be honored during tomorrow’s celebration for concluding the award’s campaign, at Children's City in Creek Park, Dubai, in recognition of the efforts they exerted in searching for information about the Rare Diseases, and in employing their knowledge into different kinds of arts reflect their distinctive personalities. Actually, the competition has supported the goal of the campaign in encouraging young Emiratis to better understand the topic of Rare Diseases, its causes and prevention ways”, Abdullah Bin Souqat said.

“The winners were selected by a jury included Dr. Fatima Bastaki, Dr. Fatima Al Jasmi, Zulaikha al Hammadi, Awatef Abdul Baqi al Jasmi, and Zainab Saleh Al-Ansari”, he added.

“9 winners have been selected from 49 students participated in the art-work category, 14 participants in the category of the story-writing, and 20 participants in the category of the scientific paper”, he added.

Regarding the art-work category, the first winner is Talal Ziad, in the seventh grade at the National School, Ajman, the second winner is Fatima Nasser Al Muhairi, in the ninth grade at Al Ebdaa Model School, Dubai, and the third winner is Khadija Ahmed Abdullah Al Suwaidi, in the ninth grade at Fujairah Girls Center.

In the story-writing category, a short story entitled "At the Same Hallway" by Rama Yahya Fares in the tenth grade, al Hekma Private School, Ajman, won the first place. The second place went to the short story entitled "His heart for her only" by Qumasha Khaled Mohammed al-Ali, in grade 11, Umm al Momineen Secondary School, Fujairah. The third place went to the short story entitled "A flower has not died" by Bashaier Yousuf al Khayat in grade 10, al Dhait Secondary School, Ras Al Khaimah.

In the category of the Scientific Paper on Rare Diseases, the 3 winners are from Salma bint Qais Model School for Elementary and Secondary Education, grade 11. The first place went to Fatima Abdullah Sulaiman al Zhori, the second place for Moza Ali Ahmed Abed, and the 3rd place for Fatima Matar Al khushary.
