H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid is to honor the winners of his Medical Award on Monday 08 December 2014

At a grand ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and the Patron of Hamdan Medical Award, will honor 20 winners of the 8th term of the Award, 2013 to 2014, on Monday December 15, at Rashid Hall, Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The ceremony will be attended with a galaxy of sheikhs, ministers, VIPs and those in charge of local, regional and international health sectors.

This was stated by Abdullah bin Souqat, the Executive Director of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, pointing out that the invitation is for public to attend the ceremony and be a part of such important historical moments to honor significant personalities from all over the world in recognition of their contributions in improving the healthcare services and supporting the volunteer work.

Also, during the ceremony the names of the 4 Emirati winners of the Hamdan Award for Honoring Individuals Working in the field of Medicine and health in the UAE will be announced.

Abdullah bin Souqat said: In conjunction with the award ceremony, the 8th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences will be held on Drug Discovery, Vaccines, Cell Therapy and Targeted Therapy, at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai, from 15 until December 17, with 18 CME hours accredited from the United Arab Emirates University.

“The conference includes 12 workshops and 22 lectures presented by a constellation of significant lecturers from 12 countries around the world namely; the United States of America, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, England, Germany, France, China, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt and Liberia.

The winners of the international and Arab world awards will be among the keynote speakers of the conference including Professor Majid Abu Gharbia from USA, the winner of Grand Hamdan Award on the topic of Drug Discovery.

“Also, the conference will be held with the participation of the winners of the Hamdan International Award for Medical Research Excellence including Professor Stanley A. Plotkin, Professor Carl H. John and Professor Brian J. Drucker from USA and Professor Olle Ringdin from Sweden”, he added.

“Among the conference’s keynote speakers are the winners of Hamdan Award for volunteers in medical and humanitarian services including Carter Center from USA, Noor Dubai from UAE, Dr. Mads Gilbert Frederick from Norway, and Dr. Melvin Korkor from Liberia”, he said.

“Regarding the winners of the Hamdan Award to honor outstanding medical figures in the Arab world who will participate in the conference, they are Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Ghoneim, from Egypt, and Dr. Zuhair Youssef Halees from Saudi Arabia”, he said.

It is worth mentioning that among the institutions to be honored during the award ceremony are the winners of Hamdan Award for the Best Medical/ College / Institute / or center in the Arab world, namely the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of Oman, and the Institute of Mongi Ben Hamida National Institute of neurology, Tunisia.

Also, during the ceremony the winners of Hamdan Award for an Outstanding Clinical Department in the public Sector in UAE will be honored including Department of Pediatrics, Tawam Hospital, Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, and Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery Centre, Dubai Hospital.

Also, Dr. Sirag Bennaser, UK, will be honored in recognition of his research paper entitled “In vitro interactions between rodent hepatic stellate cells and metastaticand non-metastatic human colorectal cancer cell lines”, which is the winner of Hamdan Award for Original Research Paper Published in the Hamdan Medical Journal.
