Hamdan Medical Award organizes an observer ship program for Emirati doctors at Cleveland Clinic, USA 08 October 2014

Organized by the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, 4 Emirati doctors have recently returned back to the homeland after participating in the activities of the observer ship training program in the Cleveland Clinic, USA.

The delegation included Dr. Haitham Ali Reda, consultant cardiologist, Rashid Hospital, Dr. Samir Abdel-Hamid Al-Awadhi, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Rashid Hospital, Dr. Moza Majed Al Falasi, Specialist internist, Rashid Hospital and Dr. Hussein Taleb Shabaan, Consultant, Ear, Nose and Throat, Dubai Hospital.

Prof. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General of the Hamdan Medical Award said that organizing the program comes within the framework of the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and the patron of the Award, regarding strengthening the experiences exchange with the major medical institutions all over the world.

“The success of the program on the ground has urged the Hamdan Medical Award on organizing more programs in the future for a larger segment of doctors from all health authorities and institutions within the UAE” Prof. AL Khaja said.

“As a part from the educational medical programs accredited from the Cleveland Clinic, USA, and attended annually by 600 specialists from more than 65 countries all over the world, the program has lasted for 10 days”, he added.

“In collaboration with the Center for Medical Education in Cleveland Clinic, USA, and its Middle East regional office, the Hamdan Medical Award has begun preparing for the program since late 2013. Through the communication with the officials from the Cleveland Clinic, the Award has taken all the procedures, received the names of the candidates, registered their needs from the visit and prepared all the necessary measures for the trip”, he said.”, he said.

For their part, the participating doctors extended their appreciation for the Hamdan Medical Award, which organized the event in an excellent way. Also, they thanked the Cleveland Clinic staff for their support to achieve the desired benefit from the visit.

Dr Samir Abdel-Hamid Al-Awadhi, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Dr. Moza Majed Al Falasi, Specialist Internist, Rashid Hospital, said that they were allowed to visit important units in the clinic such as the liver transplant clinic and the diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures.

“Beside our daily round, we attended the departmental teaching meeting which is held twice weekly for doctors there to present the new studies and review the recent research”, they added.

Dr. Haitham Ali Reda, consultant cardiologist, Rashid Hospital, said that he attended the clinic of the ACHD and observed their method of consultation and the electronic recording system and imaging system. Also, he had the opportunity to visit various procedures in the Echocardiogram dept, Electrophysiology cath lab and Coronary cath lab.

The observer ship program for Emiratis physicians has supported their knowledge about many aspects of the medical and administrative procedures in the Cleveland Clinic, which is considered one of the largest international medical institutions all over the world. Actually, it will be reflected on them by developing new insights and important ideas to improve the UAE health institutions in the pursuit of medical excellence and enhancing the main elements of the medical tourism at the state level.
