For the second successive year: Hamdan Medical Award supports the prostate diseases awareness campaign week in the UAE 01 October 2014

Supported by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and organized by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Emirates Urological Society, the 4th Prostate awareness campaign in the United Arab Emirates will be concluded tomorrow, Thursday, under the slogan “prevention is better than cure”.

Abdullah bin Souqat, Executive Director of Hamdan Medical Award, said: For the second successive year, the Award supports the prostate awareness campaign within the framework of its belief in the positive impact of awareness campaigns in raising the knowledge of people about many health issues.

He said that he had launched the campaign from Dubai Hospital last Sunday (September 29) accompanied with Dr. Abdul Rahman Saleh Al Jasmi, CEO of Dubai Hospital, and Dr. Moza Al Sharhan, chairman of the Emirates Medical Association.

Abdullah bin Souqat praised the campaign whose success is the fruit of the efforts of Hamdan Medical Award, DHA and the Emirates Urological Society. “The campaign aims to raise the awareness among the community members, particularly healthcare professionals, about the prevention methods from prostate diseases such as maintaining the healthy life style and the dietary habits”, he said.

“During the campaign, a series of lectures and seminars are organized at Dubai Hospital, Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Municipality. During these lectures, the attendees can ask questions and listen to the answers from the specialists in addition to receive many booklets and leaflets about the prostate diseases”, he added.

For his part, Dr. Fariborz Baghari, acting Head of the Urology Department, Dubai Hospital, said that the importance of the campaign stems from the importance of the prostate gland for men. This gland causes the most health problems in male population such as affecting the urinary functions and causing the chronic pelvic pain (70% of men suffer from the chronic pelvic pain).

“During the Prostate awareness campaign, medical examinations are available for the early detection. Individuals diagnosed with a prostate disease are given access to an integrated health program under the supervision of the urologists and the laboratory Department in Dubai Hospital.

Dr. Baghari expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and DHA on their continued support for the campaign over the years, which reflects their efforts in upgrading the public health in the United Arab Emirates by promoting the principles of the prevention and early detection.
