Under the auspices of Hamdan Medical Award: Dubai hosts the 3rd International Arab Neonatal Congress and the 1st MEMAP update on Pediatrics 15 September 2014

Dr. Ahmed Al Hashimi, a member of the board of trustees of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid AL Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, opened the activities of the 3rd International Arab Neonatal Congress and the 1st MEMAP update on Pediatrics. The conference was held at JW Marriott Marquis, Dubai, from 12th till 14th of September, and attended by about 400 healthcare professionals.

The conference was held with the participation of the Arab Neonatal Group (ANG), the Middle East Mediterranean Academy of Pediatrics (MEMAP), the union of Middle East and Mediterranean Pediatric Societies (UMEMPS), the Union of Arab Pediatric Societies (UAPS) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

In his inaugural speech, Dr. Ahmed Al Hashimi said: “This event is held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences founded by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Health Authority. This Award is considered the prominent award in the United Arab Emirates and one of the pillars that supports the achievements in the medical field, and that seeks to propel healthcare to new horizons, both locally and internationally”.

“Supporting the scientific activities is one of the main objectives of the prestigious Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and the convening of the Third International Arab Neonatal Congress is the true reflection of the commitment of the Award to the medical community in order to enable the participants to upgrade their knowledge and gain the necessary experience for the development of the medical sector”, he said.

“Organizing similar activities is the best way to encourage the principles of specialization and of evidence-based medicine in the field of patient care and to help healthcare professionals in their continuous quest to gain access to the best practices of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic areas”, Dr. Al Hashimi added.

It is worth mentioning that the first announcement for the conference was during the press conference held on the 1st of September in the Dubai Health Authority by Mr. Abdullah Bin Souqat, Executive Director, Hamdan Medical Award, and Dr. Khaled El Atawi, Specialist in Latifa Hospital and the president of the 3rd International Arab Neonatal Conference.
