Hamdan Medical Award receives 63 research projects for funding in the 8th term 21 April 2014
Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences received 63 research project applications from universities and research institutions within the United Arab Emirates for funding in its 8th term 2013 - 2014, it includes 45 clinical and 18 basic science projects.
 
Prof. Sehamuddin Galadari , Chairman of the Medical Research grant Committee of the Award’s center for research support said: The submitted projects are from significant academic and research institutions within the UAE, namely the College of Medical and Health Sciences, UAE University, College of Medicine, University of Sharjah, RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University, Khalifa University, Zayed University, Sharjah Institute of Medical Research, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Tawam Hospital, Al Mafraq Hospital, Ambulatory Health Services (AHS), Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA ), and Imperial College Diabetes Centre in Abu Dhabi.
 
“Currently, the submitted projects are screened by the members of the Award’s Medical Research grant Committee to evaluate the application for its scientific value, importance to the scientific research and how far it meets the local medical community needs. The themes for the projects for this term are 'mental health, molecular and cellular basis of disease, and health and lifestyle Education”, he said.
 
“Prof. Yousuf Abdul Razak, Prof. Salah Eddine Naji Gariballa, Prof. Frank Christopher Howarth, Prof. Ernest Adeghate and Dr. Syed Ali Shah forms the Medical Research grants’ scientific Committee”, he added.
 
“The Award’s Center for Research Support prepares a list of the international referees, outside the UAE, who are specialized in the fields of sciences related to the submitted projects, each project will be evaluated by a 3-referees committee”, Prof. Sehamuddin said.
 
“The projects based on the evaluation reports received by the medical research grant committee will be selected for funding’’, he added
 
“The Award’s support exceeds the financial affairs. The results of the funded projects will be published in Hamdan Medical Journal, and its recommendations will be shared with the decision-makers to take advantage of them on the ground”, Prof. Galadari emphasized.
 
It is worth mentioning that in each term of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, AED 2 million are dedicated to finance the scientific research inside the UAE. Such a support goes in line with the Award’s belief in the important role of the scientific research in improving the healthcare sector”.
