Hamdan Medical Award reviews the cooperation with Oman in the field of human genetics research 22 January 2014
A delegation from the Award’s Center for Arab Genomic Studies (CAGS) arrived to the UAE, after a short visit to the Sultanate of Oman during which a series of discussions were held with the officials from the Omani healthcare sector about the horizons of the mutual cooperation in human genetics.
 
The delegation was headed by Prof. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General of the Award and President of CAGS, and included Dr. Mahmoud Talib Al Ali, Director of CAGS, and Dr. Abdul Rezzak Hamzeh, Senior Scientific Coordinator, CAGS.
 
“During our talks with Dr. Mohamed Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, Sultanate of Oman, we discussed the genetic health, the research policies in UAE and Oman, the possibility to start new collaborative courses in genetic counseling and bioinformatics as well as working together on major research projects in the field of genetics”, Prof. Najib Al Khaja said.
 
“Also, the co-funding of scientific projects between Hamdan Medical Award and Oman research Council was discussed. We met with the officials from the council including Dr. Talal Al Balushi, Director of International Relations Dept, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Shukaili, Director of Health and Social Development Sector”, he said.
 
“Our visit to Oman was concluded with an important meeting with the officials from the National Genetics Center in Muscat, attended by Dr. Anna Rajab the director of the center. We discussed the possible common projects in that field”, Al Khaja added.
