Genetics In Neurology; May 19th, 2005 - Shangri-La Hotel Dubai 20 May 2005
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences was the main sponsor of the above event held on Thursday, 19th May 2005 at Shangri-La Hotel Dubai. The Genetics and Development Research Priority Group of the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences of the UAE University, Al Ain, arranged the event.
 
Prof. Yousef M Abdulrazzaq, Vice - Dean, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences, UAE University and the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of Sheikh Hamdan Awards inaugurated the CME event. This was followed by an introductory speech about the Sheikh Hamdan Awards by Prof. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General of the Hamdan Awards. In his introductory speech, Prof. Najib described the awards' beginning, its progress and achievements. He also emphasized the need for medical research and the support being given by the Hamdan Awards in this aspect. During his speech, Prof. Najib talked about establishment of the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies and the importance of genetics in the Arab World.
 
Dr. Ghazi Tadmouri, Asst. Director of the Centre for Arab Genomic Studies (a division of the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences) has made a scientific talk about the Catalogue of Transmission Genetcis in Arabs, which is a database for genetic disorders in Arab people. There were other scientific talks given by Prof. Lihadh Al Gazali, Prof. Valsa Eapen & Dr. Nisrine Bissar - Tadmouri and other two international speakers - Prof. Geoff Woods, Leeds and Cambridge University, UK and Joseph Gleeson, University of California, San Diego, USA.
