In association with college of Medicine University of Sharjah: Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences opens Evidence based Healthcare Management workshop 17 June 2010
Prof. Najib Al- Khaja, the Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al- Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, and Dr. Hossam Hamdy, the Dean of school of Medicine University of Sharjah inaugurated today Evidence Based Healthcare Management workshop at the College building in Sharjah.
 
Mr. Abdullah Bin Souqat, the Executive Director of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al- Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and a galaxy of doctors in School of Medicine University of Sharjah Attended the opening ceremony, with the participation of about 70 professionals in the UAE health sector.
 
Prof. Najib Al-KhajaIn the opening ceremony Prof. Najib Al- Khaja delivered a speech in which he said that he is proud of organizing the workshop which reflects the award’s strategic objectives towards developing skills of doctors locally and internationally. 
 
He added that organizing such medical workshops improves qualifications of doctors which will be reflected on improving the quality of medical services.
 
He said that the workshop is a part of a series of workshops organized by the award in collaboration with School of Medicine University of Sharjah, with the aim of encouraging scientific research.
 
“In previous workshops young doctors expressed their need for more workshops on related subjects”, Prof. Najib Al-Khaja said.
 
He added that "attending such workshops encourages doctors to conduct more scientific research papers”.
 
Dr. Hossam Hamdy referred in his speech in the opening ceremony of the workshop to the continuous constructive cooperation between the school of Medicine, University of Sharjah and the prestigious Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences in various fields of medical research and continuous medical education.
 
Regarding to the importance of Evidence Based Healthcare Management workshop he said that evidence based medicine is a new trend in medicine which depends on evidences in diagnosis and treatment further more than sense of doctors. 
 
He said that the future will witness many forms of cooperation between the award and the College in order to support medical research within the framework of a strategic plan for School of Medicine University of Sharjah which has been already begun with the establishment of Sharjah Institute for Medical Research. 
 
Then, Dr. Hossam Hamdi the Dean of College of Medicine University of Sharjah declared the inauguration of the 3-days workshop which included in its first day four sessions, during which doctors worked in small groups. 
 
Through putting clinical questions doctors were trained on ways of reaching its answers. They were also trained on ways of using developed methods to evaluate research papers.
