His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim, Minister of Health, Chairman of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences chaired the 23rd meeting at the premises of the award in Bur Dubai.

 

The meeting was attended by Mr. Qaadi Saeed Al Morooshi, Vice Chairman, Dr. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General, Mr. Mirza Al Sayegh, Treasurer, Dr. Abdulla Al Khanbashi, Member of the council, Dr. Ahmed Al Hashemi, Member of the Council, Mr. Abdulla Bin Souqat, Executive Director of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences. 

 

His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim lauded the efforts of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Patron of the Award for developing the medical services generally and the activities of the award specifically. His Excellency also lauded the efforts of the members of the board of trustees and their leading role in developing the healthcare sector inside and outside the UAE.

 

HE Minister of Health: Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award Encourages Health Sector Development in the UAE

 

The members of the board of trustees reviewed the report of the board and its accomplishments that have been done during the second quarter of the year including the support of medical researches, annual award ceremony, international conference for medical sciences, accomplishments of the Center for Arab Genomic Studies, the publications of the center including the two books about genetic disorders in Qatar and Kuwait. The council also reviewed a number of future projects that would serve the works of the health sector inside and outside the UAE. 

 

The members also discussed the project of establishing a human genetic research unit at the Center for Arab Genomic Studies under the umbrella of the award to help scientists discover the genetic disorders in the UAE and the region as well as study the genetic differences in the GCC countries in order to know the genetic sequence in the region and consider it as a cross referential for genetic studies that are related to genetic disorders to be then distributed to the genetic centers in the public organizations. 

 

The Chairman of the board of directors lauded the idea of the genome research unit reassuring that this should be a national project that would enhance the role of public health organizations and academic institutes and also recommended the feasibility study of the project. The project is also a basic element for raising the roles of both public organizations and academic institutes and enhancing their ranks regionally and internationally. It also forms a regional bloc for genome centers lauding the efforts of the award and the center in serving the members of the society. 

 

During the meeting, the members of the board of directors of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences talked about the ambitious plan of developing the continuous medical education center at the award through their support to international medical conferences and workshops. 

 

The board of trustees recommended the necessity of communication between all public and private sectors in organizing conferences and adopt a strategic clear methodology that is concerned with the selection of medical conferences and their scientific programs as well as their credit hours that must be approved by the official academic authorities in the UAE according to the country’s strategy in raising the continuous medical education and their role in raising the standards of health sector employees in the UAE.
