Dr. Hanif Hassan, Minister of Health announces today the winners of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences 07 September 2010

Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al-Qasim, Minister of Health, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences holds a press conference at Dubai Press Club to announce the names of the winners of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, at its sixth term 2009-2010. 
 
All details of the 6th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences which will be held after the awards ceremony during the month of December will also be announced.
 
Last week, the Patron of the Award H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al- Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance adopted the names of the winners in three categories the international awards, the Arab world awards and the United Arab Emirates awards.
 
Prof. Najib Al-Khaja, Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al- Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, said that since the beginning of the sixth term of the award two years ago the Scientific Committee of the award in collaboration with a panel of international arbitrators have proposed the topics of the awards, determined the timing of nominations’ receipt, evaluated nominations and determined the winners in addition to identifying the theme, Endocrinology for the 6th Dubai international conference for Medical Sciences and selecting the speakers.
 
Prof. Najib Al-Khaja said that the Scientific Committee for the prestigious Award is formed in its current term under the chairmanship of Prof. Youssef Abdul Razzaq. The subcommittees of the award are chaired by several senior doctors, namely Dr. Hussein Saadi, the head of Grand Hamdan International Award, Dr. Sehamudin Galadari, the Chairman of the Committee for Hamdan Award to Support Medical Research in UAE, Prof. Miodrag Lukic, the Chairman of Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence, Dr. Omar El-Agnaf the Chairman of Hamdan Award for Best Original Research Paper published in the Journal of Medical Sciences, Dr. Saad Ghazal Aswad the Chairman of the Committee of the Arab world Awards, Professor Frank Braniki the Chairman of Hamdan Award for the Outstanding Clinical Department in the Public Sector in the UAE, Dr. Salim Bastaki the Chairman of the Committee for Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services.
 
Dr. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General of the Award added that the international awards include numerous awards. The first award is Grand Hamdan International Award which is decided to be given in current term to the most important scientific achievement made in the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus like the discovery of a treatment or a new drug or the invention of a tool or a new surgical technique.
 
The second award of international awards is Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence for which diseases of obesity, osteoporosis and thyroid have been identified.
 
The third award is Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services.
 
As for the Arab world awards, it includes Hamdan Award for Best Medical College, Institute or Centre in the Arab world.
 
The second Award in that category is Hamdan Award for honoring distinguished personalities from the Arab world. The winners are selected through the recommendations from the Health Ministry of the countries from the Arab world and based on the individual’s scientific and academic achievement which reflected on the medical development in the Arab World.
 
The first Award of the category of the United Arab Emirates awards is Hamdan Award for an outstanding clinical department in the public sector in the UAE which have provided exemplary medical services and care for the people of the United Arab Emirates.
 
The second Award in this category is Hamdan Award for honoring individuals working in the field of medicine and health. 
 
As for the third of those awards is Hamdan Award for original research paper published in Journal of Medical Sciences from inside and outside United Arab Emirates.
