1ST Emirates Hematology Conference 2011 is to be opened tomorrow 23 March 2011
Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance, the President of Dubai Health Authority and the Patron of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, the activities of the 1ST Emirates Hematology Conference will be opened tomorrow (Thursday) in Dubai Monarch Hotel.
 
The conference is organized by the Emirates society of Hematology and Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, and supported by Dubai Health Authority. 
 
The 3-days conference will hold six scientific sessions and 22 lectures for high-profile international hematology experts from UAE, the Middle East, Europe and the United States of America.
 
180 doctors, nurses and technicians working in various health sectors locally and internationally participate in the conference. 
 
Dr. Asma Sultan Al-Ulama the chairman of the Conference’s Scientific Committee said that a group of world senior Hematologists will participate in the conference, including Prof. Kanti Rai.
 
Prof. Kanti Rai is the former president of the American Society of Hematology and is well known all around the world particularly for his work in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) & the famous Rai staging system in CLL.
 
"Also among the conference’s participants is Prof. Ayalew Tefferi –USA. He is a leading researcher in blood diseases, and a major contributor to the WHO classification of Myeloproliferative Neoplasm", Dr. Al Olama added.
 
She said that among the conference’s participants is Dr. Nancy Harris - Harvard Medical School–USA. "Dr. Nancy Harris is the editor of the Case Records of the Massachusetts General Hospital for the New England Journal of Medicine and is the author of the WHO classification for lymphoid malignancies", she said.   
 
On the other side Dr. Khawla Belhoul the chairman of the social committee and a member of the Conference’s scientific and Organizing Committees said that the 1st Emirates Hematology conference 2011 will discuss the latest world research papers and innovations in the field of blood diseases.
 
"This conference is an investment in UAE health future as utilizing modern knowledge and technology can significantly improve the patient care & their quality of life in UAE", she added.
 
Dr. Belhoul said that on top of issues to be discussed in the conference are the advances made in Hemoglobinopathies, Iron overload, Cord Blood Transplantation, Acute & Chronic Leukemias, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Lymphoproliferative disorders, Myeloma & Myeloproliferative Neoplasm, and Bleeding & Thrombosis.
 
She added that the first day of the Conference includes two important scientific sessions and eight lectures. 
 
"The first session Deals with Hematological diseases, UAE perspective, with complex case presentations and discussion", Dr. Belhoul said. 
"The second session will discuss Haemoglobinopathies, iron overload and Cord Blood Transplantation", she added.
 
It is worth mentioning that Emirates Society of Hematology is affiliated to Emirates Medical Society and was formally established in June 20, 2009, consisting of elite hematologists from United Arab Emirates.
 
The conference’s organizers hope that Emirates society of Hematology contributes to put United Arab Emirates on the map of future international Hematology conferences.
