7TH Emirates Critical Care Conference is to begin tomorrow in Dubai 20 April 2011
UAE is nominated to host the Conference of the World Federation of Societies of intensive and Critical Care Medicine in 2017
Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance, President of Dubai Health Authority and the patron of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, Qadhi Al Murooshid Director General of Dubai Health Authority will open tomorrow (Thursday) the 7th Emirates intensive care conference (ECCC) which is held in conjunction with the 3rd Asia Africa Conference of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive Care and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM) and the 7th International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society (IPACCMS) Congress.
 
The 3-days conferences are organized by the Emirates Intensive Care Society (EICS) and the International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society (EICS), supporting with Dubai Health Authority and Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences at InterContinental Hotel in Dubai Festival City. 
 
In the framework of preparations for the conference an expanded meeting was held today between representatives of EICS, Dubai Convention Centre and Dubai Health Authority to submit a nomination for WFSICCM concerning hosting its conference in UAE by 2017.
 
Dr Hussain Nasser Al Rahma, the President of the 7th Conference of Emirates Intensive Care Society, President of the International Pan Arab Critical Care Medicine Society and the Chairman of the Emirates Intensive Care Society said that, through an agreement with the WFSICCM, the conference is the first platform to present new developments and research papers conducted during the past six months in that field over all the world. 
 
Dr Al Rahma said that during the opening ceremony Dr. Edgar Jimenez, the President of WFSICCM will communicate with Orlando Hospital campus in the United States directly through the Internet.
An automated doctor will visit a patient in the intensive care unit in the hospital, make examinations, review the results of his tests and then give treatments and make sure to follow the treatment properly. 
 
This automated doctor is called robodoc and is considered one of the innovations of Dr. Jimenez, which are used today in more than 12 U.S. states, many American university hospitals as well as in many hospitals in Japan, Korea, Indonesia and in Germany. 
 
This system works through a global network of eminent specialists and at a reasonable cost.
 
“The conference will discuss 25 research papers within 130 Lectures with the participation of 52 key speakers, 120 international medical colleges and 1400 doctors, nurses and laboratory technicians working in that field”. 
 
“30 countries Participate in the conference i.e. USA, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, India, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Japan, the GCC countries, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan and South Africa”, he added. 
 
Dr. Hussain Al Rahma said that the conference will discuss ways of dealing with emergency cases in intensive care units in all medical specialties, such as kidney diseases, respiratory diseases, neurological diseases and brain injury. 
 
The conference will also discuss ethics governing many issues like clinical brain death and organ donation. 6 workshops will be held in the conference including training on the latest medical systems used in intensive care units to save patients with respiratory stroke, transferring patients by ambulance or aircraft and the management’s systems of electronic information in intensive care units in hospitals. 
 
Dr Hussein Al Rahma Said that the Conference devoted three awards for the best Arab research papers in the Conference i.e. "Al-Razi" award for the best scientific research on intensive care, "Al-Haitham" award for the best research on the management of intensive care units and "Rufidah" award for ??for the best research submitted by the staff of nursing. 
 
He added that on the sidelines of the conference several important meetings will be held including the first annual meeting of the members of the Board of Directors of the WFSICCM and the meeting of the members of the Board of Directors of the IPACCMS. 
 
Also, on the sidelines of the meeting the meeting of the members of the IPACCMS with the President of the European Critical Care Society will be held to discuss ways of development and cooperation between them, rehabilitation of Arab hospitals to obtain a confession from the European society and holding the exam for the European Diploma of Intensive Care in Dubai within the next two years. 
 
Dr. Al Rahma Said that elite of senior specialists in the field of critical care participate in the conference namely Dr. Edgar Jimenez, President of the WFSICCM, Professor Jean-Daniel Chichi, President of the European Association for critical Care, Professor Steven Meyer, President of the Association of Critical Care for brain diseases and injuries, Professor Younsuk Koh, chairman of the Korean Society for critical Care, Professor Christopher Farmer, Executive Member of the Permanent American Assembly of critical care, Professor Oliver Jonas Boyau, President of the European Association for Scientific Research of renal diseases in intensive care, Dr. Assem Abdel Razek, Chairman of Egypt's Society for Critical Care and Dr. Tamer Abdelhaq, chairman of nerves critical care program - Henry Ford University in addition to the heads of Critical Care societies in all participating countries. 
It should be noted that, in cooperation with WFSICCM, UAE has begun to organize the Asia-Africa Conference, which is the second largest conference of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine, and the first biggest one in Asia and Africa.
