Dr. Najeeb Al Khaja: Embryo Medicine is the theme of the 7th term of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences 2011-20 17 December 2010
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and with the attendance of His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim, UAE Minister of Health and Chairman of Board of Trustees of Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, 6th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences concluded its activities.
 
The closing ceremony of the conference was attended by Prof. Najeeb Al Khaja, Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al Madani, President of Emirates Diabetes Association, Dr. Fathyia Al Awadi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of Emirates Endocrinology Congress 2010, Abdullah Bin Souqat, Executive Director of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, a number of officials from Ministry of Health and health authorities as well as doctors and media members.
 
6th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences included three important events: MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Diabetes Leadership Forum, Ceremony of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences and Emirates Endocrinology Congress 2010.
 
Speaking to the participants and audience, His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim, UAE Minister of Health expressed his appreciation and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance for the honourary fellowship degree His Excellency received from the Royal College of Physicians in London pointing out that His Highness’ efforts is considered as a great support to local, regional and international achievements in medical fields.
 
His Excellency UAE Minister of Health lauded the success of 6th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences during which many important topics related to diabetes has been discussed to raise the awareness of public in fighting diabetes locally and internationally.
 
His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan Ali Al Qassim also thanked organizing committees for their efforts reassuring that cooperation is the best way for facing challenges in the health sector.
 
Dr. Najeeb Al Khaja, Secretary General of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences expressed his gratitude to the success of 6th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences coinciding with the ceremony of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.
 
“The award has proved its success since its establishment in 1999 until now and I hope that 7th term (2011-2012) will achieve greater success” He said.
 
Prof. Al Khaja announced that the theme of the 7th term of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences is Embryo Medicine. Neonatal medicine is the theme of Grand Hamdan International Award and embryo medicine, neonatal medicine and their relation with nutrition and genetic metabolic diseases are the themes of Hamdan Award for Medical Research excellence.
 
Prof. Al Khaja called concerned doctors to nominate themselves to Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum award for Medical Sciences 2011-2012.
 
Also, Dr. Abdul Razzaq AL Madani, President of Emirates Diabetes Association lauded the efforts of the association and Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences in holding Emirates Endocrinology Eongress 2010 within the activities of 6th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences reassuring that the congress was attended by 1400 doctors from 31 countries.
 
In her speech, Dr. Fathyia Al Awadi, Chairman of the organizing committee of Emirates Endocrinology Congress 2010 thanked all the committees for their efforts and called local and international health authorities to participate in the coming International Diabetes Federation congress 2011 that will be held in Dubai next December.
 
Meanwhile, Dr. Fathyia stated that the recommendations of the congress called for developing strategies to confront the diabetes epidemic through collaboration among various authorities, private enterprises, voluntary associations and the community, paying special attention to the growing prevalence of Diabetes and Pre-diabetes challenges associated to younger generations, recognizing and addressing various diabetes complications especially Cardio Vascular diseases, controlling Hypertension and Hyperlipidemia to reduce Diabetes, empowering the role of diabetes educators in the care of diabetes and providing them with knowledge to enable people with their life style changes.
 
“In Parallel with the increase in Diabetes, we witness an alarming increase in endocrine disorders such as vitamin D deficiency, thyroid, osteoporosis, and obesity. The conference addressed various solutions to combat these diseases, through medical and community action”, she concluded.
