On behalf of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum : HE Abdul Rahman Al Owais Opens 10th Arab Orthodontic Congress 23 November 2011
On behalf of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority, HE Abdul Rahman Al Owais UAE Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Acting Minister of Health, will open tomorrow morning 10th Arab Orthodontic Congress 2011 at InterContinental Hotel in Dubai Festival City.
 
The 2-days congress is organized by Emirates society of Orthodontic in cooperation with Arab Orthodontic Society, and supported by UAE Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority and Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.
 
Dr. Moza Tahwara, head of Emirates Society of Orthodontic and Arab Orthodontic Society, said that the participants will receive 12 CME hours from the UAE Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority and Saudi Commission for health specialties.
 
"The congress will discuss 21 papers through eight sessions. 12 Arab and foreign countries participate including USA, Denmark, Germany, Italy UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt and Tunisia", she referred. 
 
"Holding the Arab Orthodontic Congress in an Arab Country regularly, every two years, is an excellent opportunity for dentists to study the latest findings in that field", she added.
 
"Preparations for holding the conference have been started during the meeting of the Arab Orthodontic Society’s Council in Jordan in 2005, which was held on the sidelines of 7th Arab Orthodontic Congress. There, UAE was chosen to head Arab Orthodontic Society 2009-2011 and to organize 10th Arab orthodontic Congress 2011.
 
On the other hand, Dr. Amna Hasan Al Shamsi, President of the  Scientific Committee of the congress praised the scientific program which includes interesting papers to be discussed such as Orthodontic Management of Adult Patients with Compromised Dentitions,  Habilitation of children born with cleft lip and palate ( CLP) deformity, Management of Impacted Maxillary Canines, the problem of Gummy Smile, anterior dental asymmetry and how to handle difficult asymmetrical cases, Esthetics and Biomechanics Based Non Surgical Correction of Open Bites, Orthodontic Microsurgery in addition to obstructive sleep apnea that occurs due to obstruction caused by collapse of soft tissue structures in the oropharynx or hypopharynx. 
 
She said that the conference will also discuss Uses of Botox in Orthodontics and Facial esthetics, as orthodontists nowadays consider soft tissue factors and facial aesthetic standards in their clinical examination and diagnostic records.
 
Dr. Nadia Al Kadi, secretary of the Congress, said that on the sidelines of the congress, two workshops are being held today. The first workshop is dealing with Treatment of tooth size/arch length problems, Treatment of Class II malocclusion and Fixed Appliance Therapy.
 
As for the second workshop, it is dealing with appliances based on virtual treatment goals and on the difference between plaster surgery and virtual surgery for patients with skeletal anomalies, selfligating brackets, and the new appliance called "Distal Screw".
