Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences has offered university students the chance to register at the 5th Pan Arab Human Genetics Conference for massively reduced rates (token fees). The conference will be held from 17 to 19 November and is organized by the Award’s Centre for Arab Genomic Studies (CAGS) in collaboration with the Golden Helix Organization for Biomedical Research, at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai.

 

Abdullah bin Souqat, Executive Director of the award, said that such a decision showcases the support from H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, by all means for establishing a new generation of Emirati scientists and researchers who are well exposed to the latest findings of modern sciences. Such opportunity will help these young researchers to face various challenges; therefore it is a step towards guaranteeing a better future for the United Arab Emirates and its ambitions to have a pioneering position in various fields of science.

 

“The Hamdan Medical Award is keen to support the continuing medical education within the UAE through organizing important educational programs for the health sector professionals. Also, the Award works on overcoming any obstacles that may prevent them from participating in these events. The 5th Pan Arab Human Genetics Conference is held in conjunction with the Award’s celebration with the 10th anniversary of CAGS. CAGS is considered a major scientific entity in the field of the Human Genetics. Within a relatively short time, it has become an essential scientific reference point for the Arab and foreign geneticists”, he added.

 

“The 5th Pan Arab Human Genetics Conference witnesses remarkable participation by students from the faculties of medicine, health sciences and sciences within the UAE. The Award received the applications from more than 175 students as well as their faculty members. Such a number is expected to increase, especially that the door is still open to receive more requests for attendance. The large number of students to participate in the conference is a direct result of its importance and the scientific value of the research papers which will be presented thereupon. The main theme of the Conference, “Genomics Into Healthcare”, is considered one of the multidisciplinary hot issues in the scientific field”, Bin Souqat said.

 

It is worth mentioning that the 5th Pan Arab Human Genetics Conference discusses many important topics, including next-generation sequencing, cancer genetics, pharmacogenomics and diagnosis and molecular profiling. Also, on the sidelines of the conference a workshop will be held around the project, RD-Connect, which is a global endeavor to link up databases, registries and biobanks related to research on rare diseases.

 

The scientific program of the conference includes 8 sessions and 19 lectures with the participation of 22 keynote speakers from 15 countries including the United States of America, China, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and Tunisia.
