On the occasion of the launch of the Health Economics Diploma, approved from the University of Washington: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid is to receive the participated delegations from the Gulf region 27 May 2013
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance, President of Dubai Health Authority and the Patron of Hamdan Medical Award will receive tomorrow night (Tuesday) at his palace in Zabeel, a high-level delegation from the Gulf region including 30 decision-makers and opinion leaders from the health institutions in the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain. The delegation includes the participants of the Diploma of Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment which is organized by the Award for the first time in the Middle East, held in collaboration with the University of Washington and supported by Bristol-Myers Squibb Middle East and Africa.
 
"Under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum the HMA organizes the Diploma which goes in line with the process of upgrading the health sectors within the region. Also, the diploma supports the UAE strategy aiming at boosting the medical tourism", Prof. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General of Hamdan Medical Award said.
 
"The Diploma is a fruit of efforts exerted by the Award in collaboration with the Pharmaceutical Outcomes Research & Policy Program affiliated to the College of Pharmacy, University of Washington during the previous year", he added.
"The participants will learn the scientific basis for making decisions in the health institutions including the mechanisms of the strategic planning, follow-up process, the integration between the facilities, available resources and manpower and the balance between the supply and the demand of health services in the light of studying the needs of the community and assessing the macro and micro economy in healthcare sectors", Al Khaja added.
 
Al Khaja praised the high level of the scientific lecturers of the diploma which includes three modules. The first module will be held from 28 to 30 May at Al Murooj Rotana Hotel, Dubai. Among the lecturers is Dr. Dennis Boudreau who earned her doctorate in Pharmaceutical Outcomes Research and Policy from the University of Washington in 2002. Her studies are in multiple areas including: general drug safety, medication use and cancer risk, validation of pharmaceutical data sources, and cost utility of measures to improve mammography screening.
 
Also, Dr. Josh Carlson participates in the first module of the Diploma. He graduated with his PhD from the University of Washington in 2007. He is interested in Genomics and the personalized medicine technologies, uncertainties research to improve healthcare systems and the usage of the modern technologies in improving health institutions and the public health.
 
It should be noted that while the 1st module of the Diploma will be held from 28 till 30 May, the second one will be held from 29 to 31 October and the third one from 19 to 21 November, with the participation of a group of significant professors from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Washington.
