H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority has approved the names of the winners of the 7th term of Hamdan Medical Award (2011-2012), during H.H. meeting with the members of the Award's Board of Trustees headed by H.E. Abdul Rahman Bin Mohammed Nasser Al Owais, UAE Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and UAE Acting Minister of Health at Za'abeel Palace.

 

Also, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid was briefed on the ongoing preparations for holding the Awards' Ceremony on December 10, 2012 and 7th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences on December 11 and 12 on the topics Neonatal Medicine, Fetal Medicine, Nutrition in Infancy and Inborn Errors of Metabolism.

 

During the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum praised the efforts exerted by the Award's Board of Trustees in selecting the winners. Also H.H. Sheikh Hamdan gave his directives to take necessary measures to establish the Awards' Ceremony and the Conference, commensurate with the unique position of the Award locally, regionally and internationally.

 

On the other hand, Prof. Najib Al Khaja, Secretary General, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences, praised the vision of the patron of the Award, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and H.H. continued support to the activities of the Award whose budget has reached to AED twenty million in each term, supports many activities including honoring excellent professionals in health care sectors locally, regionally and internationally.

 

Also, Al Khaja has thanked the members of the Award's Scientific Committee, subcommittees and Board of Trustees for their efforts exerted during the last two years to select the winners transparently.

"H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has approved the names of the winners of the Award's 3 categories including International Awards, Arab World Awards and UAE Awards", Al Khaja said.

 

Concerning the International awards, Neonatal Medicine is the subject of Grand Hamdan Award in the current term of the Award, and Fetal Medicine, Nutrition in Infancy and Inborn Errors of Metabolism are the topics of Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence. Also, this category includes Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services", He added.

"As for Arab World Awards, it includes Hamdan Award for the best medical college / institute or Center in the Arab world, awarded equally to two prominent institutions, and Hamdan Award for honoring distinguished personalities from the Arab world, awarded equally to two distinguished personalities", he said.

 

"UAE Awards includes Hamdan Award for an Outstanding Clinical Department in the Public Sector in UAE, Hamdan Award for Honoring Individuals working in the Field of medicine and Health, and Hamdan Award for Original Research Paper published in Journal of Medical Sciences (whose name has been changed to Hamdan Medical Journal ( , awarded for the best two papers published in the journal from September 2010 to March 2012", he added.
