Prof. Yousef Abdul Razzaq, Chairman of the General Scientific Committee of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences declared the end of November as the last date for submitting the nominations for the 8th term of Hamdan Medical Award 2013-2014.  AED 2,800,000 is the total amount allocated for 8 Awards in three categories including the International Awards, the Arab world awards and the UAE awards. While Drug discovery is the new subject of Grand Hamdan Award, Vaccines, Cell Therapy and Targeted Therapy are the topics of Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence.

 

This came during the meeting chaired by Prof. Yousef Abdul Razzaq and attended by the heads of the Award's major and sub committees at Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University, including Prof. Sherif Karam, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of Grand Hamdan Award, Dr. Saad Aswad, chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Arab World Awards, Prof. Frank Branka, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of Hamdan Award for an outstanding Clinical Department in the public sector in the UAE and Prof. Omar El Agnaf, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of Hamdan Award for Original Research Paper Published in Hamdan Medical Journal.

 

During the meeting, Prof. Yousef Abdul Razzaq reviewed the names of the new members of the committees. Regarding to the Scientific Committee of the Grand Hamdan Award, Prof. Salim Bastaki, Prof. Abdu Adam and Prof. Christopher Howarth were selected as members. As for the scientific committee of Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services, headed by Prof. Salim Bastaki, the new members were selected including Dr. Gulfaraz Khan, Dr. Maria Cabezudo, Dr. Samir Attoub and Mrs. Shobha Duncan.

During the meeting, the system of selecting the winners was evaluated and the proposed development plans submitted by the chairmen of the committees were discussed, commensurate with the Award's global prestigious status and the keenness on being updated in accordance with the latest standards.

 

"Hamdan Medical Award has already started the promotional and marketing process for its new topics seeking to get the largest possible number of the distinguished nominations. The award participated in many medical conferences and exhibitions this year in order to communicate, face-to-face, with the largest possible number of doctors and specialists. The marketing process via the Internet and the specialized medical journals is on progress", Prof. Abdul Razzaq said. 

 

It is noteworthy that the award's 2-years term includes many important activities and events on the top of which is the process of selecting and announcing the winners. At the end of each term, the winners are honored in a big ceremony attended by the patron of the award H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Health Authority, and held in conjunction with the Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences. 

The International Awards category includes Grand Hamdan Award, Hamdan Award for Medical Research Excellence and Hamdan Award for Volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services. The category of the Arab World Awards includes Hamdan Award for the Best Medical College / Institute or Center in the Arab World and Hamdan Award for Honoring Distinguished Personalities from the Arab world. The UAE Awards include Hamdan Award for an Outstanding Clinical Department in the Public Sector in the UAE and Hamdan Award for Honoring Individuals Working in the Field of Medicine and Health and Hamdan Award for Original Research Paper Published in Hamdan Medical Journal, issued by the award, from UAE and abroad.
